Learning Outcomes and Application This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to supervise technical operations of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage, processing and maintenance operations. It includes identifying types of gas system faults and communicating with appropriate person/s conducting the technical operations/activities. It also includes accessing relevant resources, monitoring operational requirements and completing relevant documentation, records and reports. This unit applies to any work site where LPG operations occur.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Element: Prepare to supervise LPGoperations
  • Hazards and work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) risks are identified and prioritised and risk control measures implemented and monitored
       
Element: Relevant person/s are consulted and work is prioritised and sequenced for completion within acceptable timeframes and to industry standards in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Work schedule/s, drawings, plans, job requirements and material lists are obtained, analysed and site inspection conducted, as required, to determine the preparation work required for planning and coordination
       
Element: Job requirements and workplace procedures for the work are obtained for all work sites and communicated to relevant persons
       
Element: WHS/OHS, environmental and sustainable energy policies and procedures related to the work are obtained to ensure safe systems of work are followed
       
Element: Relevant work permits are obtained to perform the work in accordance with regulatory requirements and workplace procedures

Element: Equipment faults are identified through inspection and testing of operational equipment in accordance with work schedule and job requirements
       
Element: Hazard warnings and safety signs are recognised, hazards and WHS/OHS risks assessed and reported to authorised person/s for directions in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Operating conditions of equipment are monitored through checking gauge levels, temperatures and flow indicators to determine performance of equipment and system
       
Element: Pipeline system operations are monitored and communicated to relevant person/s to ensure safe and efficient operation of the pipeline system
       
Element: Fault-finding and troubleshooting techniques are applied to operational system and equipment faults to identify any repairs or maintenance required in accordance with requirements and workplace procedures
       
Element: Work is coordinated to ensure completion in agreed timeframes and to industry standards with a minimum of waste in accordance with job requirements and workplace procedures
       
Element: Unplanned events non-routine problems are identified and actioned in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Quality and safety checks of the work are undertaken in accordance with job requirements, workplace procedures and community and industry standards

Assessment Tasks
